Blissfully quiet; works great!

I have had a Breadman Ultimate for eight or nine years and it works quite well, but it is large, heavy, and very noisy. When I read about this new Zoj in the King Arthur Flour Company catalog (indispensible, BTW), I asked for it for Christmas. I couldn’t be happier! While the machine is running, I can even watch TV in the adjoining room without missing any of the dialogue! For my first project, I tried the basic white bread recipe that came with the machine and it was very good (and low in fat; always a plus). I then tried a recipe from my favorite bread machine cookbook, Beth Hensperger’s “The Bread Lover’s Bread Machine Cookbook.” This book contains mostly 1 1/2- and 2-lb. recipes, but as the author recommends, you can just halve any of the 2-lb. recipes for a 1-lb. loaf. The bread was perfect and the size was just right for a two-person family! We have been enjoying delicious little loaves ever since. The baking pan is much sturdier than the pan in my Breadman Ultimate and I think it will hold up better over the years. This machine is quieter than my cat’s purrs! I love my Zoj and highly recommend it!

I love to cook, but as a single person, I’ve never been a baker.
However, I became tired of purchasing artisan breads
and having to freeze half a loaf of this, half a loaf of that.
Picture my “littered” freezer! After comparing other bread makers
and reading reviews, I decided to try this one and bake on my own.
This appliance is exactly as described, far more compact than
most units; but since my counter space is limited, I still prefer
to store it in a “mud closet” or appliance larder. The mini baker
lifts out and goes back into the larder easily. It cleans up in a snap.
Best yet, I immediately tried it out two times in two days
with guests. The preparation was a dream, almost effortless.
I just followed the simple directions exactly,and voila!
Each loaf baked perfectly. It was a delight to serve fresh bread!
The only draw back is that although hot and fresh,
the cheese/onion bread and the banana bread tasted bland,
too “white”. So, on my next batch of bread I plan NOT to use
the Sojirushi recipes but rather other recipes in a book
for bread makers that I bought separately from Amazon.com
If you do not have a good bread knife,I would purchase that, too.
In sum: I picture myself baking weekly and exploring
all kinds of different breads, even pizza dough and pasta!
This is a reliable product, convenient to use and store,
a very good investment to consider when “feathering the nest”.

It’s just the right size for 2 people. The quality of the bread is the same as the larger bread machines. Would recommend it to anyone who has a limited amount of space for storage, loves to make bread but also needs a smaller loaf!

Best Breadmaker on the Market, Hands-down

I bought this for my mother. Ideal for 2-3 people, the machine has options galore! Only wish that it included more recipies. We had to buy a supplemental book to go with, but well worth it. My mother complained that the first use was an issue, but it’s probably because she didn’t get the measurements correct. We will probably buy the larger 2-lb breadmaker once my wife and I have kids.
I would engineer this product slightly better for the amount of money. The lid doesn’t have a stay-open position and can slam shut. It’s hard to remove the breadpan because the handle is hot. Difficult to remove the bread afterwords because of the heat and the handle gets in the way. Again, great quality, but could be engineered for ease of use, hence the 4 star review.

This bread maker is one of the best machines I have ever used. It is user friendly and the receipes are easy and precise. I would recommend this product to anyone who either has used one before or wants to purchase one for the first time.
